Gone With the Wind Closing Early

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Darius Danesh as Rhett Butler and Jill Paice as Scarlet O\'HaraFollowing poor tickets sales and critic reviews, Trevor Nunn’s ‘Gone With the Wind‘ is scheduled to do exactly that following announcements the musical is finishing it’s run at the New London Theatre early. The West End production of Margaret Mitchell’s classic novel which opened on 3rd April 2008 was scheduled to run until the end of September 2008, but will now be closing on 15th June 2008.

The london show, which contains a star studded cast including ‘Popstars’ contestant Darius Dinesh as Rhett Butler and American beauty Jill Paice as Scarlett O’Hara is the first ever adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning love story to be staged in London’s West End.

Following previews in April the show received poor reviews from a number of acclaimed critics including The Independent, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and the Evening Standard.  Previous plans to stage the production in New York have now been put on hold, although it is said that various worldwide parties have expressed an interest in staging the show.

Oliver Twist is a Musical

Show Overview

The new London theatre production of Oliver! generated a huge amount of interest due to the BBC show ‘I’d Do Anything’. With Rowan Atkinson cast as Fagan and Jodie Prenger as Nancy the play by award winning director Rupert Goold hit London by storm, quickly breaking previous box office records.  Goold, who previously directed Jessica Lange in the West End revival of ‘The Glass Menagerie’ won Best Director  at the 2007 Evening Standard Awards for ‘Macbeth’ with Patrick Stewart who also won best actor.

Oliver the Musical is one of the most popular West End musicals this year with glorious songs including ‘I’d Do Anything’, ‘As Long As He Needs Me’, ‘Consider Yourself’ and so many more. It is a celebrated story of love, lust and danger mingled with Fagan’s delightful humour and the sadness of the orphans and Nancy and indeed every destitute character. This was Dicken’s second novel and is really dark at times, exploring Victorian London’s seedy and murky life of the poor. Oliver at 9 years old is sent to a Work House where he endures a daily grind with very little food. The very famous line ‘Please Sir, I want some more’ is the beginning of a new and dangerous life for the boy. He then meets Fagan and The Artful Dodger of course, arguably two of the liveliest characters in a Dicken’s novel.

It is highly recommended that you buy tickets for Oliver tickets early to avoid disappointment. Tickets are selling fast so let Concierge Desk secure the very best tickets for Oliver at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for you and your family.

The role of Miss Lynch, the Rydell High School headmistress, is to be taken on by up and coming Dorset based actress, Chloe Brooks. Brooks, 23, makes her West End theatre debut in Grease the Musical at the Piccadilly Theatre in June 2008.

Having graduated from the Guildford School of Acting only two years ago, Chloe has appeared in a number of London fringe theatre productions, and worked hard to gain a presence in mainstream West End theatre attending numerous auditions.  Up until now, each attempt was in vain with roles being given to ‘more experienced actresses’.  However, her success in obtaining the role of Miss Lynch places Chloe firmly on the London theatre map as she stars alongside reality TV ‘Grease is the Word’ winners Danny Bayne and Susan McFadden in the hugely successful london show

Chloe attributes her success to ‘being in the right place at the right time’, and is now putting maximum effort into rehearsals under the watchful eye of legendary choreographer and judge in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, Arlene Phillips OBE.

Grease the Musical is the West End theatre adaptation of the classic 1978 movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.  The show stormed onto the London stage in July 2007 and continues to be a massive title.  Recreating the magic of the original film, Grease the Musical includes the hit music and songs from the movie, and is not one to be missed!

Concierge Desk would like to offer Chloe our congratulations in achieving her role in the hit musical, and we look forward to seeing her perform in the summer.

Creation Restaurant Review

The Creation Restaurant is located inside the Radisson Kenilworth Hotel in Great Russell Street. Dining here is the perfect start to your theatrical evening. You can watch the Chef’s at work via the glass divide that spectacularly offers a view of the experts preparing and cooking your meal.

The restaurant is cool and very comfortable and in keeping with the hotel surroundings is modern and luxurious in richly, exotic colours. The food served here is fabulous modern British Cuisine with influences from the Far East. There is also a stylish bar if you have time before or after your meal.

The staff are friendly and well informed, and know how to make you feel welcome.

Add a touch of class to your night out and combine your theatre tickets with a 2 course meal at Creation Restaurant.
