Going to the theatre has never been so popular according to The Society of London Theatre (SOLT) statistics, which saw record breaking attendances in excess of 13 million last year! To be precise, an audience figure of some 13.6 million enjoyed a visit to London theatre in 2007, with Musicals proving most popular.

Two thirds of all tickets sold were for musicals, with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Grease topping the bill due to a massive following from the highly successful television reality talent competitions.

Opening at the end of 2006, Spamalot and Wicked also proved extremely popular, and the most successful play was Equus, probably thanks to the lead role being played by super star Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame.

Average audiences at london shows was 781, and a total of 17455 performances were held.
