One of the National Theatre’s biggest hits returns to the London stage from 10 September 2008.
‘War Horse’ is a show for anyone over the age of 12, but make sure you take plenty of tissues along as the ending is tear jerking to say the least.
Rave reviews for the original production included the Sunday Times saying:
War Horse only confirms the National’s extraordinary knack of turning children’s literature into the finest drama. Stunning.
The Sunday Express described it as:
An extraordinary piece of theatre which is both epic and intimate. Guaranteed to move the heart.
It features amazing puppetry from the Handspring Puppet Company and will be one of the first shows to play at the National on a Sunday as the theatre starts operating seven days a week this autumn.
The play is based on the novel by children’s laureate, Michael Morpurgo, and tells the story, set during World War One, of young Albert, whose horse Joey is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. Albert cannot forget Joey and embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.
The Handspring Puppet Company, who are from South Africa won both an Olivier Award and London Critic’s Circle Award for the design of the original sell-out production last year.
If you want a show for the whole family, it’s worth grabbing hold of theatre tickets for War Horse.
