‘Taking Sides’ is by award winning writer Ronald Harwood and can be seen alongside ‘Collaboration‘ also at the Duchess Theatre.

It tells the story about the investigation into the great composer Wilhelm Furtwaengler  who remained composer of the Berlin Philharmonic during the Third Reich. Furtwaengler was revered by Hitler and because of this close association, he was subject to investigation after the war.

Major Steve Arnold who had witnessed the horrors of Belsen made it his job to investigate Furtwaengler. On the surface, a crude and uncultured man viciously interrogating an intelligent and articulate German.

Furtwaengler is played stirringly by Michael Pennington and David Horovitch does a fabulous job as the brutish Major Arnold.
