The Latitude Festival

The Latitude Festival is now in its fourth year. It is a mixed art form festival on the Suffolk coast and will run this year from the 16th until the 19th of July.

This year’s line-up will include the Royal Opera House’s festival debut and a musical, ‘Been So Long’ presented by the English Touring Theatre. Other theatre companies involved include the Bush Theatre, Sadler’s Wells, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.

Last year, the festival’s theatre programme was awarded the Stage Award for Special Achievement in Regional Theatre. The sites used last year included a theatre tent which held 600 people. This year’s event will feature approximately fifty theatre and performance productions.

‘Been So Long’ is a musical adaptation of Che Walker’s 1998 play of the same name. The music is by actor and composer Arthur Darvill. Arthur’s acting credits include the BBC’s recent production of ‘Little Dorrit’ and ‘Terre Haute’ which was produced by Nabokov and staged at the Trafalgar Studios. ‘Been So Long’ will start as a London show when it plays at the Young Vic before the Latitude Festival. It will then go to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it will play at the Traverse Theatre.
