The National Theatre continues to be an enormous success story under the guidance of its inspirational and commercially astute Artistic Director, Nicholas Hytner. The team of associate directors such as Howard Davies, Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris consistently produce not only satisfying and vibrant cutting edge theatre but also huge box office successes.

Current hits in the South Bank’s three theatre’s include ‘Dido, Queen of Carthage’ the rarely performed Elizabethan epic by Christopher Marlowe, ‘Mrs Affleck’ an update of a classic Ibsen, a new play originally premiered in the North East ‘The Pitman Painters’, an adaptation of an award winning Russian film ‘Burnt by the Sun’, and the controversial ‘England People Very Nice’.

A tradition of hits shows transferring to the West End and Broadway has been built. Stephen Daldry’s anti Thatcherite take on Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’ continues to delight audiences up and down the country. Last year ‘The History Boys’ played in the West End whilst ‘The Seafarer’ was on Broadway.

The latest show to demonstrate the winning National Theatre formula is ‘The War Horse’ an adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel which will play at the New London Theatre from the 28th of March. In a record breaking year for the sale of theatre tickets, it is never too early to book.
