The Tin Horizon

‘The Tin Horizon’ is a new play by Orlando Wells, which plays at Theatre 503 until the 9th May 2009. The play gives a glimpse of how the future might turn out and will lead you to conclude that you don’t want that future. It tells the story of Vladimir who has more than his fair share of problems. His servant seems to be a servant only in name and won’t follow his master’s orders. His former lover is coming to stay. His business, a taxidermy shop, seems to be attracting a lot of unwanted interest from the local constabulary, and as if that wasn’t enough, it seems the Messiah may be popping in for breakfast.

Theatre 503 is only a small fringe theatre yet whilst the stage is undoubtedly small, and the feeling intimate, the productions somehow feel more like a commercially produced London show. This is helped no doubt by the calibre of the cast they manage to attract.

The director Phoebe Barran, who trained at the Orange Tree theatre in Richmond, has managed to assemble some fantastic talent including Sadie Shimmin. Her theatre credits include ‘A Voyage Round My Father’ in the West End and ‘Life After Life’ and ‘The Rose Tattoo’ at the National Theatre. She has recently been seen on television in ‘Wallander’ and ‘Coronation Street’.
