Calendar Girls is about a group of Women’s Institute women who decide to pose naked for a calendar. Made into a blockbuster film in 2003, the story is based on a true story and so the challenges and emotional ride of these women is all the more endearing. None of them had ever done anything remotely risqué before but the appeal of cake baking and jam making had lessened as they yearned for different ways of raising money for their chosen charity, Leukaemia Research.
The idea of a naked calendar was that of Chris Harper after another WI woman, Annie Clarke’s husband dies. The group of unlikely models, spark outrage within the hitherto conservative WI and anguish amongst their own families; jealousy, embarrassment and anger.
Firmly embarked upon their fund raising journey, the women could never have imagined that the spark of interest in their peaceful Yorkshire town would fuel the huge media circus that developed. They find themselves eventually in Hollywood after going through some emotionally draining experiences, not to mention the sometimes unwelcome glare of publicity that follows their journey.
The current cast is stunning and it is well worth booking your tickets early enough to see the magnificent Patricia Hodge and Lynda Bellingham. Full cast list is below.

However, a new cast has been drafted in, and will take over from the 28th of July, running until the 17th of October. This may well be one of those shows that runs and runs as there must be many older actresses queuing to take part in this glorious play. [...]
