Coming to the Orange Tree
London’s only permanent theatre in the round, The Orange Tree continues to attract and excite audiences with its forthcoming productions.
‘The Story of Vasco’ runs until the 25th of April. The play is by Georges Schehade and the production is of a little known translation by Ted Hughes and is being performed for the first time. It is directed by Adam Barnard.
It tells the story of Vasco, a barber, who is the only man left in the town of Sosso after all the others have gone off to war. A lieutenant arrives and entices Vasco away for a top secret assignment. Meanwhile, Marguerite lives in a cart in the forest accompanied by her father and a collection of stuffed dogs. The play is described as “half fairy tale, half Goon Show.”
After that the Orange Tree’s Artistic Director Sam Walters directs ‘Factors Unforeseen’ by Michael Vinaver and translated by Catherine Crimp.
This play has a cast of 20 actors in the story of a small French cosmetics company who sell suntan lotion. A princess is dying of skin cancer and agrees to be interviewed regularly on television. This leads to plunging sales, workers striking and companies failing.
It runs from the 29th of April until the 30th of May. Book your theatre tickets now.
