First there was the calendar. A branch of the Women’s Institute in Yorkshire decided to pose for a calendar in order to raise money for charity. The thing that made it newsworthy was that this mixture of perfectly ordinary ladies posed naked.

This true story had all the ingredients for a hit film and playwright Tim Firth produced a screenplay which was made into a hit film. That film has, in due course, spawned a stage show. In fact the tour of that show has broken records, being one of the fastest selling shows ever.

Now it is to become a London show and once again it is setting the box office alight with record advance sales. It is set for a limited run until the 27th June but don’t be surprised if it becomes a fixture in the West End.

The star studded cast includes; Lynda Bellingham, Sian Phillips, Patricia Hodge, Gaynor Faye, Julia Hills, Brigit Forsyth, Joan Blackham, Elaine C Smith, Abby Francis, Joan Blackham, Carl Prekopp, Gerald McDermot and Gary Lilburn.

The original calendar was made in support of Leukaemia Research and the ladies of the WI have already raised £1.5 million. Every theatre ticket sold includes a further contribution to that charity.
