Free Theatre Festival
‘West End Live’ is the largest free theatre festival in the world. Yes, that’s right, free theatre tickets! This year’s event, the fifth, will take place in London’s Leicester Square on the weekend of the 20th and 21st of June. Already, more than 15 West End musicals have agreed to perform.
Amongst the treats in store, you can expect to see Jerry Springer in ‘Chicago’ and reality television star Jodie Prenger in ‘Oliver’. Other shows featured include ‘Carousel’, ‘Hairspray’,’La Cage Aux Folles’, ‘Dirty Dancing’, ‘Avenue Q’, ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’, ‘Jersey Boys’, ‘Thriller – Live’, ‘Sister Act’, ‘Wicked’, ‘We Will Rock You’, and ‘Stomp’. There are expected to be over 150,000 attending the festivities.
The organisers are Westminster City Council and the event is supported by the Society of London Theatre. The spectacle also includes live broadcasts, street entertainment and arts workshops. Additionally, there are exhibitions, many of them interactive, from some of the capital’s top tourist attractions and museums.
There will also be performances from Tom Tom Crew, the London Gay Men’s Chorus, So Jest End, the Sylvia Young Theatre School and the Player’s Theatre.
It all happens between 11am and 6pm on Saturday the 20th of June and from noon until 6pm the following day.
