Friday, August 28th, 2009

It seems that the time it takes for a film to be turned into a stage musical is becoming shorter and shorter. It certainly doesn’t seem very long ago that children were pleading to be taken to the cinema to see the second movie in the Disney High School Musical franchise.
‘High School Musical 2 Live on Stage!’ to give it its full title began a four and a half month tour at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London on the 22nd of August. It stars Les Dennis and the winner of yet another television search for a star – Liam Doyle plays Troy after winning a vote on the ITV show GMTV.

The story sees the gang working at an exclusive country club. The show climaxes with the Midsummer Night’s Talent Show.

Les Dennis is best known as the host of quiz show ‘Family Fortunes’ but does have a pedigree in musical London theatre.  He was in the West End last year in ‘Eurobeat’ and has also appeared in ‘Chicago’ and ‘Me and My Girl’.
