The year of 2008/2009 saw the theatre introduce theatre tickets for shows on Sundays as well as NT Live and to add to that, the South Bank saw positive growth this past year too. The most welcomed figures show that the productions held at the National Theatre entertained a grand total of 817,000 theatre enthusiasts this year. The National Theatre has achieved 93% capacity and this year saw a seven-year high in the number of theatregoers that went to National Theatre shows.
This is a positive upturn considering the financial hardship the UK has experienced in 2009. It is also a positive representation of the rise in interest that the general UK public is showing in buying theatre tickets for theatrical performances. NT Live was also a roaring success. This program was introduced, allowing live theatre performances to be screened live to cinemas.
The theatres participating in this came to 280 cinemas across the globe. This meant that an additional 50,000 performance enthusiasts could enjoy the show of which 30,000 were in the UK alone.
