Christmas Treats

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Here are a couple of suggestions for shows that have a limited run over the Christmas period. cheap theatre tickets for them are already on sale.

The musical version of the film ‘The Full Monty’ comes to the New Players Theatre. It will run from 2nd December until 2nd January 2010. The show has reset the scene to America but still tells the story of a group of would be male strippers. It is directed by Thom Southerland and stars Sarah Waddell who was recently seen in Southerland’s production of ‘State Fair’ at the Finborough and ‘The York Realist’ at the Riverside Studios.

‘Morecambe’ will play at the Duchess Theatre from 9 December until 17 January 2010. The production is a celebration of the comic genius Eric Morecambe and is a one man show starring Bob Golding. This West End transfer follows the success of the show at the Edinburgh Festival.

Golding has previously appeared at the New Vic Theatre in Stoke where productions have included ‘Buddy’s Song’, ‘Across the Barricades’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

The Lion and Unicorn in Kentish Town has a Christmas Dickens that isn’t ‘A Christmas Carol’. Instead Piers Beckley has penned a new adaptation of ‘Oliver Twist’. The show will run from 30th November until 10th January 2010. theatre tickets are already available.

Inherit the Wind

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Trevor Nunn’s production of ‘Inherit the Wind’, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E Lee, plays at the Old Vic until 20th December. It stars the theatre’s artistic director Kevin Spacey and David Troughton and has been attracting rave reviews so it would be best to get your theatre tickets for this show as soon as possible.

The play tells a story based on true events. The real life story was known as the Scopes monkey trial after the science teacher named Scopes who had taught Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Spacey is still a very bankable film star with credits including ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’, ‘Superman Returns’  ‘Pay It Forward’ and ‘American Beauty’. His Broadway credits include ‘Hurlyburly’, ‘A Moon for the Misbegotten’ and ‘Lost in Yonkers’.

David Troughton is one of the United Kingdom’s greatest stage actors. Although a regular on our television screens, he is best known for his stage work. His theatre credits include ‘Playing With Fire’ and ‘Measure for Measure’ at the National Theatre and the title roles in ‘Richard II’ and both parts of ‘Henry IV’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Also in the cast is Janine Duvitski. Her film credits include ‘The Madness of King George’ and ‘About a Boy’ but it is television appearances such as ‘One Foot in the Grave’, ‘Benidorm’ and ‘Abigail’s Party’ which have made her a household name. To watch her perform, you can book theatre tickets through us at Concierge Desk.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

An all black cast star in a revival of Tennessee Williams’ classic play ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ which runs at the Novello Theatre until 10th April 2010. You can get theatre tickets from us at Concierge Desk.

James Earl Jones, the American actor famous for his deep tones, and for providing the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars films and Mufasa in ‘The Lion King’, stars as Big Daddy. He has transferred from the Broadway production of this play, as has Phylicia Rashad who plays Big Mama. She is probably best known for her role as Bill Cosby’s wife in ‘The Cosby Show’ but is also a very experienced stage actress who has regularly appeared on Broadway.

Adrian Lester plays Brick. His films include ‘Scenes of a Sexual Nature’, ‘Spiderman 3’ and ‘As You Like It’. He is best known for his television work which includes ‘Merlin’, ‘Bonekickers’ and most famously ‘Hustle’. He has also played some memorable stage roles which include the title role in ‘Henry V’ at the National Theatre, Hamlet for director Peter Brook and, would you believe, Roasalind in ‘As You Like It’ for the excellent Cheek by Jowl.

Nina Sosanya plays Mae. Another well known face from television, her credits include ‘Teachers’, ‘Nathan Barley’ and ‘Doctor Who’.

We at Concierge Desk love theatre and we also love to bring you the very best bargains in cheap London theatre tickets so make sure you check our website regularly for theatre tickets and don’t miss out on any of those great deals.

Long Running Shows

Friday, November 27th, 2009

When booking theatre tickets for shows in London, it is often easy to overlook the productions that always seem to have been listed. It may be that they simply don’t appeal, or perhaps you have already seen them. Maybe that was five, ten or even fifty years ago. Perhaps it would be fun to revisit an old friend?

Agatha Christie’s ‘The Mousetrap’ is perhaps the most famous theatre show in the world. It is certainly the longest running and will shortly celebrate its fifty seventh anniversary. It has run at the St Martin’s Theatre for over thirty four years and is currently selling theatre tickets for shows up to 10th April 2010.

‘Dirty Dancing’ is playing at the Aldwych Theatre and its popularity shows no sign of waning. It is currently selling theatre tickets for performances up until 27th March 2010.

The current cast is led by Hannah Vassallo as Baby and Martin Harvey as Jonathan. Martin previously worked with the Royal Ballet where he appeared in ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Onegin’ and ‘Timecode’ amongst others.

Baby’s sister Lisa is played by Jessica Brooks. Her television work includes ‘Nathan Barley’ and ‘Hotel Babylon’. Previous theatre includes ‘Don Juan in Soho’ at the Donmar Warehouse and ‘The Graduate’.

Whether you are looking to see a show that has been running in London for years or something that hasn’t even opened yet, come to us at Concierge Desk. If there is a special deal available on cheap theatre tickets we will know about it.

All My Sons is a Play

Show Overview / Review

Director Howard Davies won a Laurence Olivier Award for his ‘All My Sons’ theatre production in 2000 which was staged at the National Theatre. In this latest production, he brings together two very familiar and much loved television stars; David Suchet is best known for his portrayal of Belgium Detective Poirot and Zoe Wanamaker stars in the hit Sitcom ‘My Family’.

These two great actors take on the roles of husband and wife in this tragic Arthur Miller play about family; love and loyalty and secrets. The chief character Joe Keller is 61 years old and loves his family above everything. One of his sons is believed to have been killed in action during the war, so he is keen to see his remaining son happy; Chris wants to marry Ann but Ann was once engaged to Keller’s dead son. Keller’s wife Kate, cannot cope with the arrangement as she does not believe her son to be dead. Whilst struggling to come to terms with her personal circumstances, she is also harbouring a terrible secret for Joe.

Years before, Keller had knowingly been manufacturing World War II planes with defective parts; many young pilots subsequently lost their lives but Keller’s part in the deaths remained concealed.

Miller based ‘All My Son’s’ on a true account he read about. In ‘All My Son’s’, Miller explores one mans morality; a sadly misguided family man with questionable integrity.

A warm, sad and thought provoking play.
