The Shawshank Redemption
‘The Shawshank Redemption’, a film made in 1994, regularly features in lists of the best films ever made. It was based on a short story by Stephen King. It starred Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Now it is a West End show playing at Wyndhams Theatre. Theatre tickets are already available with booking open until February 2010.
Charged with playing the Tim Robbins role of Andy is Kevin Anderson. This American actor is hardly a household name in the UK, but has been nominated for a Tony award and is a member of the wonderful Steppenwolf Theatre Company Ensemble. Film credits include ‘Rising Sun’, ‘Sleeping with the Enemy’ and ‘Risky Business’.
Reg E Cathey plays the role of Red, which was made famous by Morgan Freeman. Another American, Reg has made many stage appearances in the States, particularly in Shakespearean productions. He is better known for TV work such as ‘The Wire’ and films such as ‘The Machinist’, ‘Tank Girl’ and ‘American Psycho’.
Perhaps the biggest draw for UK audiences to book London theatre tickets is that the play stars Geoffrey Hutchings who plays Brooksie. He currently plays Mel Harvey in the wonderful comedy series ‘Benidorm’. Film credits include ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘Topsy Turvey’. Previous stage roles include Petey in Lindsay Posner’s wonderful 2005 revival of ‘The Birthday Party’.
