Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

The Little Dog Laughed’ is a new play which comes to the Garrick Theatre in the New Year. Previews start on 9th January 2010 and theatre tickets are available for dates through until 10th April 2010. This Tony nominated comedy promises to provide plenty of laughs as it lifts the lid on the corrupt worlds of Hollywood, agents and public relations.

The show stars Tamsin Grieg. Tamsin is well known for her leading roles in television series such as ’Black Books’, ‘Green Wing’ and ‘Love Soup’. Most recently she has been seen on our television screens on Sunday evenings in the BBC’s latest production of ‘Emma’. Previous stage appearances include ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company and ‘Gethsemane’ for the National Theatre in London.

Tamsin is joined by Rupert Friend, who made his professional debut in the film ‘The Libertine’. This will be his stage debut.
Harry Lloyd also joins the cast. He is best known for his television work in shows such as ‘David Copperfield’, ‘Goodbye Mr Chips’ and as Will Scarlett in ‘Robin Hood’. Earlier this year, Harry played Rodolpho in ‘A View From the Bridge’ at the Duke of York’s Theatre.

Sister Act

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Sister Act’ is a fantastic, feel-good show with its soundtrack of soul and gospel influenced tunes. From the opening of ‘Take Me to Heaven’, through ‘Fabulous Baby’, ‘Do the Sacred Mass’ and ‘Sunday Morning Fever’ to ‘Spread the Love Around’, you won’t be able to stop your feet tapping. It is no wonder that the show is a smash and has theatre tickets on sale for shows through 2010.

The lead in the show is Patina Miller. Her voice is fantastic but it is the comic talents of the rest of the cast which ensure a memorable night for all.

Sheila Hancock is, of course, a national institution. Her television credits include ‘Grumpy Old Women’, ‘After Thomas’ and ‘Jumping the Queue’. Her films include ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ and ‘Three Men and a Little Lady’. Her previous theatre credits include ‘The Critic’, ‘The Cherry Orchard’ and ‘In Extremis’ at the National Theatre in London, ‘The Winter’s Tale’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company and ‘Prin’ in the West End.

Ian Lavender is another much loved actor in the cast. He is still remembered for his time on ‘Dad’s Army’ and, more recently, in ‘Eastenders’. His previous stage credits include ‘Caroline or Change’ at the National Theatre, ‘Rocky Horror’ in the West End and national tours of ‘Donkeys’ Years’, ‘Passport to Pimlico’ and ‘The Ghost Train’.

Legally Blonde

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

We all know how popular stage adaptations of films have become. Whilst shows such as ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ don’t delight everyone, you can’t argue with the success of shows like ‘Dirty Dancing’, ‘Sister Act’, ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’.

A show that is promising to eclipse even these is ‘Legally Blonde’. Whilst there are plenty of theatre tickets available for the show, which is currently booking until May 2010, you can expect that to change as word of the show’s success spreads.

It stars Sheridan Smith, who is well known from her television appearances in ‘Jonathan Creek’, ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’ and ‘Benidorm’. She is also an experienced stage actress having played Audrey in the West End production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. Other stage credits include ‘Into the Woods’ at the Donmar Warehouse and ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park.

Also in the cast is Peter Davison. He was Doctor Who for three years, and other television credits include ‘A Very Peculiar Practice’, ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ and ‘At Home With the Braithwaites’. Previous stage credits include ‘An Absolute Turkey’ and ‘The Last Yankee’ in the West End.
