Forthcoming Attractions at the Royal Court

The Royal Court programmes its productions further and further ahead, or at least it seems that way. This is hardly surprising when you consider the number of new playwrights they have championed who give the Court first option on their most recent shows. This early notice of productions is just as well as theatre tickets for all of their shows in London theatres frequently sell out.

From 17th February until 20th March 2010, they will present ‘Disconnect’ by Anupama Chandrasekhar. Anupama is based in India but was developed by the Royal Court’s international programme. Her first play, ‘Free Outgoing’ was produced by the theatre in 2007.

‘Disconnect’, which is directed by Indhu Rubasingham and designed by John Napier, is set in a call centre in India where graduates reinvent themselves as Americans so that they can telephone people in the United States and chase them for owed money.

‘The Empire’ by D C Moore will run from 31st March until 1st May. Again, his first play ‘Alaska’ was produced at the Royal Court in 2007. This play is set in Helmand and tells the story of a British soldier, an Afghan and a young prisoner. It will be directed by Mike Bradwell and designed by Bob Bailey.
