Pains of Youth
‘Pains of Youth’ by Ferdinand Bruckner, adapted by Martin Crimp and directed by Katie Mitchell, is running at the National Theatre with theatre tickets available for dates until 21st January. The Independent gave the production five stars, describing the show as “exhilarating.”
It is set in Vienna in 1923, and as the title might suggest deals with the ennui suffered by young people in any place and at any period in history.
The play stars successful actor Leo Bill. His television work includes ‘A Very Social Secretary’, ‘Sense and Sensibility’ and ‘Home Time’, and he has also appeared on our cinema screens in the recently released ‘Me And Orson Welles.’ Other film credits include Tim Burton’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’ and ‘Becoming Jane.’ Previous theatre credits include ‘The Reporter’, ‘The Hothouse’ and ‘The Observer’, all performed at the National Theatre.
Laura Elphinstone also stars. Her previous theatre credits include ‘Tom and Viv’ at the Almeida, ‘The Crucible’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company and ‘Women of Troy’ at the National Theatre.
Jonah Russell is also in the cast. He is clearly a favourite actor of the director Katie Mitchell as he has previously appeared in her productions of ‘The Seagull’, ‘Waves’, ‘Attempts on Her Life’ and ‘Women of Troy.’
