The Early Bird

The Finborough Theatre’s artistic director Neil McPherson continues to programme a superb mix of classic and new plays. There’s even more reason for him to do so as in the New Year, the theatre celebrates its thirtieth anniversary.

‘The Early Bird’ is a new play by Leo Butler, which will run from 2nd February until 27th February 2010. Butler is still a relatively young playwright who has already established an impressive reputation. His previous work includes ‘I’ll Be The Devil’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company, for whom Butler is currently adapting ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress.’ ‘Heroes’ played at the National Theatre and he has had a number of works performed at the Royal Court including ‘Lucky Dog’, ‘Made of Stone’ and ‘Faces in the Crowd.’

‘The Early Bird’ will be directed by Donnacadh O’Briain and stars a real life husband and wife playing a fictional couple. They are Catherine Cusack and Alex Palmer.

Cusack’s television credits include ‘Ballykissangel’, ‘Dr Who’ and popular ITV soap ‘Coronation Street’. Her film roles include Hollywood film ‘Finding Neverland’ and ‘The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne.’ Her previous theatre credits include ‘Measure for Measure’ for English Touring Theatre, ‘Our Lady of Sligo’ for the National Theatre and ‘Fragile’ at the Arcola.

Palmers films include ’28 Days Later’ and ‘Still Crazy.’ Previous theatre credits include ‘About the Boy’ at the Royal Court and ‘The Novice’ at the Almeida.
