Sweet Charity

The classic musical ‘Sweet Charity’ is currently enjoying a very successful revival at the Menier Chocolate Factory, where theatre tickets are available up until 7th March 2010. The show, with music written by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and script by Neil Simon, features a number of show stopping songs. These include ‘Rhythm of Life’, ‘Big Spender’ and ‘If My Friends Could See Me Now.’

Matthew White directs the production, which has recieved many complimentary reviews. The Daily Express commented that, “The entire ensemble cast is terrific.” In particular, Tamzin Outhwaite has been singled out for praise in her playing of the title role.

Outhwaite is best known for her successful television roles, including ‘Eastenders’, ‘Red Cap’ and ‘Hotel Babylon’. Her films include ‘The Mystery of Dr Martinu’, ‘Cassandra’s Dream’ and ‘Radio Cape Cod’, whilst previous theatre experience includes ‘Carousel’ at the National Theatre in London, ‘Flesh Wound’ and ‘Breathing Corpses’ at the Royal Court and ‘Boeing Boeing’ in the West End.

Also attracting great reviews is Mark Umbers, who is not only playing the role of Oscar Lindquist in this show; he is also filming ‘Turn of the Screw’ for the BBC. Other television credits include ‘Blackbeard’ and ‘Berkeley Square’. Previous theatre credits include ‘My Fair Lady’ at the National and ‘The Vortex’ at the Donmar Warehouse.
