The Whisky Taster
Written by James Graham, whose previous plays include ‘Little Madam’ and the superb ‘Eden’s Empire’, new play ‘The Whisky Taster’ tells “a technicolour story about seeing things too clearly in a city that never stands still.”
The excellent James Grieve directs. He is currently one of the co-artistic directors of Nabokov, who have one of the best reputations in the UK for exciting new theatre. In fact, he has also been recruited to take over the reins at the prestigious Paines Plough next February.
Sam Barnett plays Barney; an advertising whizz kid who has “the ability to feel, smell and taste colours, and to translate these sensations into words.” Barnett’s television credits include ‘Beautiful People’, ‘Desperate Romantics’ and ‘Strange’, and he has starred in films ‘Bright Star’, ‘Mrs Henderson Presents’ and ‘The History Boys.’ He also performed in ‘His Dark Materials’ at the National Theatre.
Kate O’Flynn plays Nicola, another high flyer. Her television credits include ‘Kingdom’ and ‘The Palace.’ She played Susie Cross in Mike Leigh’s fabulous ‘Happy-Go-Lucky.’ Previous theatre includes ‘Beyond the Tracks’ with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Simon Merralls plays the title character, who opens up a new way of looking at life to the two youngsters. His previous credits include ‘Twelfth Night’ with the Royal Shakespeare Company and ‘Life of Galileo’ at the National Theatre in London.
‘The Whisky Taster’ will run at the Bush Theatre from 20th January to 20th February, and theatre tickets are already on sale.
