Mrs Warren’s Profession
George Bernard Shaw’s work can often seem rather weighty for a modern theatre audience, or at least that is what some would have us believe. However, this is to underestimate the intelligence of the average theatre-goer. Shaw’s plays are well constructed, witty and thought-provoking and still relevant, even in the second decade of the twenty first century. It should not surprise anyone therefore that theatre tickets for the forthcoming production of ‘Mrs Warren’s Profession’ are selling fast.
The play will run at the Comedy Theatre in London’s West End from 25th March to 19th June, with previews from 16th March. The fact that it stars Felicity Kendal is no doubt encouraging the sales of theatre tickets. She is still best known to many as Barbara Good from the long running television comedy ‘The Good Life’, but more recent television includes ‘Rosemary and Thyme.’ She has an enviable list of theatre credits, having first stepped on stage as part of her parents’ theatre company touring India. Most recently these include ‘The Last Cigarette’ and ‘The Vortex.’
Max Bennett lends admirable support in the role of Frank in this production which premiered in Bath in October last year. Although Max only graduated three years ago, he already has some impressive theatre credits including the wonderful ‘Finisterre’ at Theatre 503 and, more recently, a national tour of ‘Measure for Measure.’
