The Misanthrope

When a new adaptation of Moliere’s ‘The Misanthrope’ by Martin Crimp opened recently, most of the headlines involved Keira Knightley as this was her West End debut. The reviewers were generally kind to her and had plenty of good things to say about this production. After all, the inherent quality of Moliere is timeless. It runs until 13th March and theatre tickets for the show continue to sell well, so don’t hang around if you’re planning to see it.

The show is directed by Thea Sharrock and with design by Hildegard Bechtler and Lighting by Peter Mumford, it is not surprising that it is such an accomplished production.

The show also boasts a terrific cast led by Damian Lewis. His television credits include ‘Band of Brothers’ and the lead in American series ‘Life’. Previous theatre credits include ‘Cymbeline’ and ‘The Devil is an Ass’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company, ‘School for Wives’ and ‘Five Gold Rings’ at the Almeida and ‘Into the Woods’ at the Donmar Warehouse Theatre in London.

Tara Fitzgerald lends sterling support. Her television credits include ‘Waking the Dead’, ‘The Virgin Queen’ and ‘The Vacillations of Poppy Carew.’ Films include ‘I Capture the Castle’ and ‘Brassed Off’. Previous theatre includes ‘And Then There Were None’ in the West End and a national tour of ‘A Doll’s House.’
