The Gods Weep
The Royal Shakespeare Company will be premiering two new plays at the Hampstead Theatre in 2010. ‘The Gods Weep’ by Sam Kelly is one of those shows. It will run from 12th March to 3rd April and will star Jeremy Irons. Theatre tickets are already on sale.
The play seems to be inspired in some part by King Lear. In a world largely composed of democracies and tyrannies without monarchs, stories of kings and the disposal of their kingdoms do not carry quite the same resonance they once did. It is not surprising therefore that the play is set in what many would see as the modern equivalent, the corporate world. The play tells the story of Colm, a chief executive officer who decides that the people below him in the corporate ladder should take on some of his power. However, Colm only succeeds in unleashing a power struggle which has tragic consequences.
Irons plays Colm and is a guarantee that the theatre tickets for this show will sell quickly. He first came to many people’s attention playing Charles Ryder in the well received television adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s ‘Brideshead Revisited.’ His films include ‘Dead Ringers’ and ‘Being Julia’. Recent stage credits include ‘Embers’ in the West End and ‘Never So Good’ at the National Theatre in London.
Many people are saying that there is currently a golden age of theatre with the number of new works taking to our stages dramatically increasing and revivals of classics continuing to draw record audiences. We at Concierge Desk are proud to be your first port of call for London theatre tickets.
