Six Degrees Of Separation
‘Six Degrees of Separation’ by John Guare and directed by David Grindley is playing at the Old Vic until 3rd April. The play, already a huge hit on Broadway, is based on the true story of an outrageous confidence trickster who infiltrated the upper classes by passing himself off as Sidney Poitier’s son. This production stars Lesley Manville. This down-to-earth actress is one of film director Mike Leigh’s favourites, having already appeared in hits such as ‘Vera Drake’, ‘All Or Nothing’ and ‘’Secrets and Lies.’ She also stars in his forthcoming, as yet untitled, film. Her television appearances include ‘Cranford’, ‘North and South’ and ‘Real Women.’ Her stage credits are also particularly impressive. She has been in ‘The Alchemist’, ‘Pillars of the Community’ and ‘Her Naked Skin’ at the National Theatre in London. Furthermore, she has performed in ‘Top Girls’, ‘Three Sisters’ and ‘The Mother’ at the Royal Court Theatre in London.
Anthony Head also stars in the play. He first came to fame as part of the ‘Gold Blend’ couple in a series of long-running coffee commercials. His television appearances include ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, ‘Little Britain’, ‘Manchild’ and ‘Free Agents.’ Previous stage credits include West End productions of ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Pirates of Penzance’ and ‘Chess.’
