Sister Act

‘Sister Act’, the musical comedy currently playing at the London theatre Palladium, has two superb reasons for celebrating. Firstly, it has now sold more than half a million tickets. Secondly, it recently broke the record takings figure for a single musical performance. It recieved more than £115,000 for the sale of theatre tickets for one night.

The show is based on the hit film of the same name which starred Whoopi Goldberg, who is now one of the show’s producers. Music and lyrics are by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater.

Patina Miller plays the part of Deloris van Cartier who finds herself hiding out in a convent and gives the nuns there a little bit of soul and shows them what it is to be truly funky.

Sheila Hancock also stars as the mother superior. Her television appearances have included ‘The Russian Bride’, ‘Jumping the Queue’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ Her film career has included ‘Three Men and a Little Lady’ and ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.’ Stage credits have included ‘The Duchess of Malfi’, ‘In Extremis’ and ‘The Cherry Orchard’ at the National Theatre in London, ‘The Winter’s Tale’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company, ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘Annie’ in the West End and ‘Under the Blue Sky’ at the Royal Court.
