The Lyric Hammersmith

Although it’s only a short tube journey from the West End, the Lyric Hammersmith has something of the feel of a local theatre. Despite this, the Artistic Director Sean Holmes is doing everything he can to make sure his shows are talked about in the same breath as those at the Royal Court, the Donmar Warehouse and even the National Theatre in London. Certainly, the signs are very good for a successful 2010 with plenty of theatre tickets already sold.

The actual auditorium itself is a wonderful Victorian theatre although the building around it dates from the 1970s. There is a lovely coffee shop and pizza restaurant as part of the theatre. With good sightlines from virtually all seats it is always a pleasure to pay the Lyric a visit. The only downside to the unusual design is that even the entrance to the stalls means taking the lift or stairs. With two circles above the stalls and only one stairwell, it can take a while to get out of the theatre after the show.

The extensive redesign undertaken in 2004 has made for wonderfully open spaces and the roof garden is a particular treat in dry weather. The latest project for the Lyric is the building of a theatre school which is scheduled for completion in 2011.

At Concierge Desk, we are all about theatre. There is, after all, far more to a trip to the theatre than just buying the theatre tickets. We can arrange the tickets, transport and even recommend a good restaurant. We also provide cheap theatre tickets for those on a budget.
