The Caretaker
Harold Pinter’s ‘The Caretaker’ plays at the Trafalgar Studios until 17th April. This very famous play tells the story of the brothers Aston and Mick and the effect an interloper, in the form of homeless man Davies, has on their relationship. The play is full of Pinter’s wonderfully bleak humour and trademark dialogue. The various characters use language to cajole and bully each other. The Telegraph has described the production as “spellbinding”, the Independent “superb” and the Daily Mail “glorious”. Theatre tickets are available although very limited for some performances.
Jonathan Pryce leads the cast as Davies in this production which started life at the Liverpool Everyman. His cinema credits include ‘Stigmata’, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, ‘G I Joe’ and the three Pirates of the Caribbean films. Television appearances include ‘Clone’ and ‘Cranford’. His previous stage credits include ‘My Fair Lady’ at the National Theatre in London, ‘Dimetos’ at the Donmar Warehouse and ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ in the West End.
Peter Mcdonald plays Aston. He played alongside Pryce in the recent production of ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ and other theatre includes ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’ and ‘Resurrection Blues’ at the Old Vic, ‘Days of Wine and Roses’ and ‘A Lie of the Mind’ at the Donmar Warehouse and ‘The Aristocrats’ at the National Theatre in London.
