Ruined

The Almeida Theatre in North London surely deserves more critical recognition. Whilst awards and plaudits are showered on the Donmar Warehouse and the Royal Court Theatre in London as a matter of course, this theatre, under the artistic direction of Michael Attenborough does not always seem to get the acclaim it deserves. 2010 looks set to be an excellent year with the sale of theatre tickets going very well.

‘Rope’, a jazz age murder story has got things underway and has now sold all theatre tickets for its run. It will be followed by a starry production of ‘Measure for Measure’ which runs from 12th February to 10th April. Then there is another contrast as ‘Ruined’ by Lynn Nottage, set in a small mining town in the Democratic Republic of Congo, runs from 15th April to 5th June.

The director Indhu Rubasingham is also having a good year and will come straight to this production from having helmed ‘Disconnect’ at the Royal Court.

The cast includes Jenny Jules. Her previous stage work includes ‘Death and the King’s Horsemen’ at the National Theatre in London. She has also been a regular at the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn where productions have included ‘The Colour of Justice’, ‘Wine in the Wilderness’ and ‘Walk Hard’. Previous appearances at the Almeida include ‘Big White Fog’, ‘The Homecoming’ and ‘A Chain Play’.
