The Young Vic
From the author of La Ronde and Eyes Wide Shut, Sweet Nothings comes to The Young Vic Stage, a sexual tragedy from acclaimed director Luc Bondy. This new version by Olivier award winner David Harrower features a strong cast in this scandalous tale. These London theatre tickets are on sale now.
Adapted from Schnitzer’s Liebelei, Sweet Nothings is set in politically decaying Austria. The sexual entanglements of four young friends and lovers is the driving force of the play, and leads them into a web of complications that their young lives are too inexperienced to comprehend. Fritz (Tom Hughes) has grown up against a backdrop of wealth and privilege. Whilst having an affair with a married woman he is also engaged in relations with Christine (Kate Burdette), who is desperately trying to escape the constraints of her working class upbringing. Theodore (Jack Laskey) is the misogynistic best friend, and Mizi (Natalie Dormer) his part time lover. The two playboys abuse their influence over the women until the whole play comes to a head with the return of the furious and humiliated husband.
Director Luc Bondy has been hailed as one of Europe’s most distinguished directors, and highly regarded for his work with Scnititzers plays.
Also at The Young Vic theatre in London, the return of Kursk by Bryony Lavery, a promenade production about Russian nuclear submarine disaster in 2000, and Fiona Shaw directs 20th Century masterpiece Elegy For Young Lovers, a clever and sharp expose of an insatiable creative ego.
