Victoria Palace welcomes new performer to Billy Elliot

People with London Theatre tickets to see Billy Elliot in November will be able to see the 24th Billy join the cast. His debut is o the 29th November. Scott McKenzie, 13, auditioned for the role of Billy Elliott back in February 2009 and was told shortly after that he had won the role. He has been at the Billy Elliott Academy since then. He will share the role with Dean Charles-Chapman, Rhys Yeomans and Aaron Watson. A number of boys are chosen for the role by the producers to prevent them from missing out on school work or becoming too tired.

Although Scott is still only 13, he has a long history in theatre. He began at UK Theatre School at the tender age of 5! He is the second Scottish Billy ever to play the part. He will be joined with Reece Barrett who will be sharing the part of Billy’s best friend Michael.

Billy Elliot is currently booking until April 2011 at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

Boost for National Theatre ticket sales of War Horse

Performances of War Horse have attained a 90% capacity, with 400,000 attendances during the last financial year. The National Theatre production sales altogether increased in 2009/2010 by almost 50%.  War Horse is set during World War 1 and has become the biggest-selling production ever at the New London Theatre, Drury Lane. It is a thrilling and spectacular production based on the celebrated novel by Michael Morpurgo, with actors working with life sized puppets by the internationally renowned Handspring Puppet Company. Audiences are taken on an unforgettable journey through history, leading them on an emotionally-charged journey. Truly a production that spans the generations and will enchant all who see it.

It has taken £13.2 million at the box office, making up 20% of the National Theatres overall income. The Chairman of the National, Hayden Phillips, told The Stage ”In the last year, I think I can fairly say that the theatre has achieved success with high artistic quality and a wide range”.

Steven Spliberg has bought the rights earlier this year meaning a film is in the pipeline. War Horse is currently booking at the New London Theatre until October 22nd 2011.
