COOL HAND LUKE TO CLOSE EARLY

Cool Hand Luke unfortunately will be closing its doors early at the Aldwych Theatre, the last performance being 19th November. The show was booking until 7th January.

The title role played by Marc Warren was made famous by Paul Newman who starred in the movie. Warren is better known for his roles in the TV series Mad Dogs, Mutual Friends and Hustle who later took a role in the Rise and Fall Of Little Voice played in the West End. He is joined in the cast with Rob Falconer, Nathan Osgood, Lee Boardman, David Sturzaker and Tom Silburn. The show is based on the Donn Pearce novel which was adapted to film in 1967. Luke is a World War II veteran turned convict who refuses to bow to authority. This raises the spirits of his fellow prisoners and turns him into a symbol of hope.

DRIVING MISS DAISY

Vanessa Redgrave, Boyd Gaines and James Earl Jones are overwhelmed by the London audiences who have been rushing to see them in Driving Miss Daisy. Playwright Alfred Uhry commented “The attention of the London audiences is noticeable,”. The cast have noticed a difference between the UK and US audiences.

The cast all previously appeared in Driving Miss Daisy when it appeared on Broadway. Earl Jones has also noticed a difference between US and UK audiences. “The London audiences being better listeners, have caught on to some ironies that make them laugh much more than in New York.”

The heartwarming story is about a Jewish elderly mother, whose son deems her unfit to drive anymore and so he hires an African American chauffeur to get her around. The story revolves around the friendship of the mother and chauffeur over the decades.

Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy starred in the Oscar winning movie.

Million Dollar Quartet to Close January 2012

Million Dollar Quartet, the jukebox musical showing at the Noël Coward theatre is due to close just ome year after it first opened, on on 14 January 2011.

Playing on Broadway prior to coming to London, Million Dollar Quartet recreates the moment

The musical, which played on Broadway prior to coming to London, recreates the moment Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered together for an impromptu jam session at the famous Sun Records studios in Memphis in 1956.

With all time classics Hound Dog, Great Balls of Fire, I walk the line, and of course perhaps the kings most famous hit made written by Perkins, Blue Suede Shoes, the score has had audiences dancing in the isles.

The famous foursome are played by Oliver Seymour-Marsh, Ben Goddard, Michael Malarkey and Derek Hagen, whilst Sun Records chief Sam Phillips is played by Bill Wards and Elvis’s girlfriend by the lovely Francesca Jackson.

Following it’s departure from London’s West end, it is planned for the musical to go on a UK wide tour.
