All My Sons

Monday, July 5th, 2010

The Apollo Theatre in London makes way for a cast including David Suchet and Zoe Wannamaker in their production of All My Sons by Arthur Miller. Theatre tickets are on sale now.

The Keller’s are waiting for the return of their son, who has been lost in action for the past three years. Devastated by his absence, their younger son is meanwhile harbouring the guilt of falling in love with his elder brother’s girlfriend. Until the Keller family can accept that Laurie may not return, their lives remain on hold. However when Annie returns to the town, the Kellers are forced to confront their hidden past, and actions are revealed that threaten to devastate their lives forever.

All My Sons is Miller’s best-known play, responsible for his rise to playwrighting success. Full of passion, power and tragedy, the play makes frighteningly relevant comment on wartime profiteering, whilst forcing under the microscope the ideology of the American Dream.

David Suchet is known and loved for his roll as television detective Hercule Poirot in the series of the same name. Suchet also has a long list of stage credits including Oleanna at the Royal Court, Salieri in Amadeus on Broadway and Cardinal Bernelli in The Last Confession at Chichester Festival Theatre.

Zoe Wannamaker is recognisable for her roles in television comedy My Family and film Harry Potter. She too has an extensive stage career, and was a member of the RSC from 1976 to 1984, and winner of several Olivier Awards.

The Apollo Theatre

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Coming to the Apollo Theatre in London this spring is Arthur Miller’s All My Sons. Theatre tickets for the show are on sale now.

Starring in this acclaimed play are cast members Zoe Wanamaker, David Suchet, Stephen Campbell Moore, Daniel Lapaine and Jemima Rooper.

Based on a true story, All My Sons tells the tale of Joe Keller, who sells a faulty airplane cylinder from his factory to the US Military, resulting in the death of 21 pilots. Joe blames his former neighbour Steve Deever, who is charged with the crime. Keller’s son Larry is thought to have been killed in action; however, wife and mother Kate Keller cannot accept her son’s death. Neither can she accept the transference of Larry’s fiancee’s affections to his brother, Chris. This entanglement of grief, lies, guilt and corruption culminates in the exposure of a devastating secret.

Jemima Rooper has recently been seen on stage at The National Theatre in London in The Power of Yes and My Naked Skin. Stephen Campbell Moore came to our attention in Stephen Fry’s Bright Young things, and subsequently appeared in The History Boys at The National Theatre and on Broadway. Daniel Lapaine has appeared at the Royal Court in Scenes from The Back and Beyond.

The show is directed by Howard Davies, with design from William Dudley, sound by Paul Groothius and lighting by Mark Henderson.

All My Sons

Arthur Miller’s ‘A View From the Bridge’ has been recognised in the recent Olivier Award nominations. It is therefore not surprising to see another of his plays in the West End. ‘All My Sons’ originally opened in 1947 in New York to great acclaim and many awards. It tells the story of Joe Keller who is believed to have supplied fighter planes with defective engines and may have even caused the death of his son as a result. It is to be revived at the Apollo Theatre in London, where performances will begin on 19th May. Theatre tickets are currently available for performances up until 11th September.

It stars David Suchet, who is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Agatha Christie’s Poirot on our television screens, where he also played the title role in ‘Blott on the Landscape’ and Melmotte in ‘The Way We Live Now’. His theatre credits include the role of the Machiavellian Iago in ‘Othello’, ‘Oleanna’ at the Royal Court, ‘The Last Confession’ in the West End and ‘Once In A Lifetime’ at the National Theatre in London.

Suchet’s co-star is Zoe Wanamaker, who is also best known for her television work. As well as her leading role in ‘My Family’, she has starred in ‘Gormenghast’ and ‘Dance to the Music of Time.
