Avenueq

One of the most unusual and funniest shows in London’s West End has made further theatre tickets available. ‘Avenue Q’ moved from the Noel Coward Theatre earlier this year to the Gielgud Theatre and originally only planned a limited run until September. Now, however, the booking period for the show has been extended until the end of January 2010.

The writers of the show Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx started work on this transatlantic hit in 1999. Originally it was conceived as a television series. However, they decided to try it out off Broadway and the result was a smash. They received rave reviews and the show was extended four times. In 2003 they opened on Broadway and in June 2006 the show opened in London.

‘Avenue Q’ is downtown. In fact as anyone who knows New York’s famous grid system of streets, it is a long way downtown. However, you’ve got to start somewhere so Princeton is relieved that he has finally found somewhere he can afford after graduating from college. The show is a wonderful combination of humans and puppets, yet you should beware if you are easily offended as the puppets behave rather differently to the ones on ‘Sesame Street’.

Songs in the show include ‘If You Were Gay’, ‘Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist’,’ Fantasies Come True’ and ‘I Wish I could Go Back to College’.
