One of the best loved ballets, The Nutcracker is performed by the English National Ballet and is a wonderful Christmas treat for all the family.

Gerald Scarfe’s and Christopher Hampson’s ‘The Nutcracker’ is vibrant and lively; a warm family tale about Clara and her Nutcracker doll. Tchaikovsky’s score accompanies Clara as she does battle with the Mouse King and falls in love with the handsome Prince in the Land of the Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. Enjoy the magic of the English National Ballet and the breathtaking dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and other familiar favourites.

Show Overview

Giselle is traditionally one of the finest treasures of the English National Ballet and in this production, Elena Glurdjidze is in the title role of the young peasant woman who is betrayed by her love. Driven to despair, Giselle takes her own life and returns as a ghost when her lover, Count Albrecht comes to visit her grave. At the graveyard, all the brides ghosts haunt their cheating lovers and make them dance to their deaths but Giselle protects her love until the light of dawn.

It is a wonderful production by Wayne Eagling who has also created and showcases his own work as a prelude to Giselle: Men Y Men is a piece for eight male dancers set to music by Rachmaninov; it is thrilling to see the power and grace of the male ballet dancer as they jump, twist and lift.

Show Overview

‘The Snow Queen’ is about two young friends Kay and Gerda; Kay catches shards of the Snow Queen’s shattered magic mirror in his eye and heart and consequently his innocence disappears as visions of his world become evil and twisted.

The Snow Queen takes Kay to her frozen Palace in the North and leaves behind an eternal winter. Gerda however determines to find Kay and searches for him relentlessly with her reindeer. She eventually finds him and her love releases him from his spell as the shards of glass fall from his eye and heart.
