Bedroom Farce

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

After a successful run at The Rose Theatre in Kingston, Alan Ayckbourn’s Bedroom Farce transfers to London’s West End. Theatre tickets are on sale for the production, now at The Duke of York’s Theatre in London.

Direction is by Peter Hall and the show stars Jenny Seagrove, David Horovitch, Daniel Betts, Rachel Pickup and Finty Willliams. Other cast members include Orlando Seale, Tony Gardner and Sara Crowe.

Bedroom Farce, written in 1975, is a sophisticated comedy centering on the lives of four couples of differing generations. The action takes place in three of the couples’ bedrooms over the course of a night and into the following morning. Delia and Ernest, the oldest couple, are celebrating their wedding anniversary and preparing to go out for a meal. Meanwhile the youngest couple, Malcolm and Kate, are getting ready for their housewarming party. Invited to the party are the other two couples – Susannah and Trevor, and Jan and Nick. What ensues is an entanglement of arguments and crossed relationships that make for an extremely face paced and quick-witted comedy. For a truly memorable London theatre experience, this production comes highly recommended.

The show premiered in 1978 at The Prince of Wales Theatre, also directed by Peter Hall. It has since been revived on the West End in 2002 starring June Whitfield and Richard Briers and off Broadway in 2008 by The Actors Company Theatre.

The show has been designed by Simon Higlett, with lighting by Peter Mumford, sound by Gregory Clarke and costumes by Mia Flodquist and Mark Bouman.
