London Theatre Royal Stratford East is becoming renowned for its production of new and diverse musicals, and the latest show to hit the stage is Britain’s Got Bhangra, premiering from 28th April to 16th May. Theatre tickets are on sale.

The 80’s set show centres on Twinkle, newly arrived in England from the Punjab and somewhat unimpressed with the cold weather and colder people. But Twinkle will not be beaten, and his aspirations of stardom and love of Bhangra fuel his determined rise to the top. Set against a backdrop of Margaret Thatcher and EastEnders, Bhangra’s Got Talent promises to be as uplifting as it is original.

Sumeet Chopra, ‘The Beat Guru’, known for his previous work on Bollywood films and collaborations with the Dhol Foundation and Punjabi MC, has composed the show which shows how British culture had been influenced by Bhangra music since the 1980’s.

Double platinum Bhangra band DCS lends its lead vocalist, Shin, to the show, who stars alongside Sunil Pramanik, Davina Perera, Ankur Bahl, Harveen Mann, Natasha Lewis, Sophia Haque, Rina Fatania, Keeze Farhan, Rakesh Boury and Aran Blair-Mangat.

Pravash Kumar has written and will direct the show, with choreography from Bollywood known Andy Kumar, and lyrics from Dougal Irvine.

Following the run at London Theatre Royal Stratford East, Britain’s Got Bhangra will commence on a national tour to venues which include Watford Palace Theatre, Oxford Playhouse, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Warwick arts Centre.
