The Hampstead Theatre
Friday, July 2nd, 2010The Hampstead Theatre is renowned for the production of new writing and association with innovative theatre companies. The upcoming season includes the exciting new play Canary, and theatre tickets are on sale now.
Canary is written by Jonathan Harvey, best-known for his stage play and film A Beautiful Thing. In Liverpool, during the 1960’s two lovers, both firmly in the closet, part ways. Later in 1980’s London, a pair of runaways find solace at the city’s biggest gay club, Heaven. In 2010, the paparazzo’s pursuit of a love story threatens the destruction of an entire family. Directed by Hettie McDonald, Canary is the moving, unflinching and honest tale of love and courage.

His plays Swan Song and Out in the Open were also premiered at the Hampstead Theatre. Harvey’s screen-writing credits include Beautiful People, Coronation Street and Gimme Gimme Gimme.
Hettie McDonald collaborates with Harvey again after originally directing Beautiful Thing for stage and screen.
