Two international comedies ‘The Roman Bath’ and ‘The Titanic Orchestra’ will play in repertory at the Arcola Theatre in London from 28th April until 15th May. theatre tickets are available for both shows now. An artefact of great value has been unearthed from beneath his floorboards resulting in everybody wanting a piece of the action.

‘The Titanic Orchestra’ is also by a Bulgarian playwright, Hristo Boytchev, whose earlier play ‘The Colonel Bird’ won the British Council’s International Playwriting Award for Best Play 1997. This play tells the story of four tramps on a railway platform who have a man thrown from a train into their midst. He claims to be the great Harry Houdini and promises to involve the tramps in the greatest escape the world has ever seen.

When John Buchan first wrote his spy thriller, ‘The 39 Steps’, he could hardly have envisaged that his hero Richard Hannay and the rest of the characters would one day be the basis for one of the funniest shows in the West End. Buchan’s novel was turned into a thrilling film by Alfred Hitchcock, and it is that film that forms the basis for the incredible success which is currently playing at the Criterion Theatre. The show sells an incredible amount of theatre tickets. This year the show will also run at the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse from the 3rd of December until the 16th of January 2010.

Buchan would be even more surprised to know that just four actors play 139 characters in the show. When you consider that one actor plays Hannay throughout, it is actually 3 actors playing 138 characters. Some of the actors even manage to play a number of characters simultaneously thanks to ingenious staging. The show was adapted by comic actor Patrick Barlow.

An example of this is a new play by Roy Smiles which will run at the Trafalgar Studios from the 14th of September until the 3rd of October with previews commencing on the 9th of September. The play is called ‘Kurt & Sid’ and imagines a meeting between Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain.

It will star Danny Dyer as Sid Vicious. Dyer is best known for films such as ‘Adulthood’, ‘Human Traffic’, ‘The Football Factory’, ‘The Business’, ‘Mean Machine’, and ‘Doghouse’. However, he does also have some impressive stage credits. He seems to have built up something of a reputation for performing in the plays of Harold Pinter. He appeared in ‘Celebration’ and ‘The Homecoming’ at the Almeida and ‘No Man’s Land’ at the National Theatre.

Shaun Evans plays Kurt Cobain. Evans is best known for his television work such as ‘The Take’, and ‘The Virgin Queen’; the play is directed by Tim Stark.

Also coming to the Trafalgar Studios later this year is Lenny Henry playing ‘Othello’ and ‘Public Property’ by Sam Peter Jackson.
