Endgame
Thursday, August 6th, 2009Just as one star studded production of a Samuel Beckett play comes to an end, another is announced. ‘Waiting for Godot’ has been doing fantastic business at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. This is hardly surprising with a cast that includes Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Simon Callow.
Now Complicite have announced that they are producing ‘Endgame’. It will run at the Duchess Theatre from the 24th of September until the 5th of December with previews beginning on the 18th of September. theatre tickets for this show can be bought through Concierge Desk.
Richard Briers will play Hamm and will be joined in the cast by Miriam Margoyles who plays Nell. The role of Clov will be played by Adrian Scarborough for the first six weeks of the run. He then goes to the National Theatre to work on the new Alan Bennett play. The artistic director of Complicite, Simon McBurney will then take over the role. The part of Nagg has not yet been cast.
The play is an absurd drama and presents us with the wheelchair bound Hamm ordering his servant to push him around whilst his parents, who live in bins, watch.
The last West End production of this play was in 2004 when it starred Michael Gambon and Lee Evans at the Albery Theatre where Matthew Warchus directed.
