Ghost Stories is a collection of spine-tingling and chilling tales developed at the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatre in February 2010, this show broke all box office records and stunned audiences with it’s inventive settings and shocking tales. Due to the success in Liverpool, this critically acclaimed play went on to frighten audiences at the Lyric Hammersmith theatre, and will now transfer to the Duke of York’s theatre in the West End this summer. Theatre tickets are now on sale.
Ghost Stories took audiences by storm after being billed with safety warnings due to “moments of extreme shock and tension”. It is the first horror show to enjoy rave success since The Woman in Black, which is still running today on the West End.
The show follows the separate stories of three men who recount their terrifying experiences to the audience. A mixture of sounds, stage effects and suspension lead to frightening twists which have made audiences scream night after night. Due to the frightnening content there is a advisory age limit of 18.
Creators of Ghost Stories Jeremy Dyson, best known for writing surreal comedy The League of Gentlemen, and Andy Nyman, current co-director on Derren Brown’s Enigma, are extremely proud of the show’s ability to shock and terrify its audiences. Director Sean Holmes has said: “I’m delighted that Ghost Stories is transferring to the Duke of York’s. Not only is the transfer a fantastic endorsement for a brilliant production but also an amazing way to end my first season at the Lyric”.
Ghost Stories opened in March 2010 at the Lyric Hammersmith, where it extended its run for two weeks following sell out success. On 25th June the show will open at The Duke of York’s Theatre in London, where it will run until November.
