On 25th November 1929 the Duchess Theatre in London opened in London’s West End. One of the smallest proscenium arched theatres, it seats an audience of 429 over two levels.

The Duchess is currently showing one of Henrik Ibsen’s best known pays, Ghosts. Directed by Iain Glen, the production stars Lesley Sharp as Mrs Alving and Harry Treadaway as her son, Oswald. Theatre tickets are due to be in high demand.

This new translation by Frank McGuinness tells the classic tale of deceit and infidelity, as hidden pasts are agonizingly exposed. In memory of her deceased husband, Mrs Alving prepares to open an orphanage. Her son Oswald returns home from Paris, whereby he falls in love with Regina Engstrand, Mrs Alving’s maid. Controversy, infirmity and deception drive the story as Mrs Alving desperately tries to keep the curtains closed on her family’s corruption, with the help of Pastor Manders.

Also coming to The Duchess theatre in London this spring is The Fantasticks, a much loved musical loosely based on Les Romanesques by Edmond Rostand, and contains elements from the tale of Pyramus and Thisbe. This brand new production is directed by Amon Miyamoto, and tells the story of two neighbouring fathers, who devise a plot to make their children fall in love by putting a wall between their houses, knowing that children by nature will act against their parents will. They do fall in love, but soon realise their fathers plot and part ways to experience the world.

Finding the best deals on theatre tickets in the West End can be a minefield. At The Concierge Desk bring you the best price on cheap theatre tickets for London’s top shows.

The late 19th century was a particularly exciting time for theatre in Europe, and it is not surprising therefore that the plays of Chekov, Ibsen and Strindberg are still regularly revived today in London theatre. A new production of ‘Three Sisters’ by Anton Chekov is running at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, and ‘Ghosts’ by Henrik Ibsen will run at the Duchess Theatre from 11th February to 15th May. ‘Three Sisters’ is a poignant piece about a society poised on the brink of inevitable turmoil. Theatre tickets for both these shows are on sale now.

Iain Glen both directs and stars in ‘Ghosts.’ His previous theatre credits include ‘The Crucible’ and ‘Henry V’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company, ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ at the National Theatre in London and ‘King Lear’ and ‘Road’ at the Royal Court. Television credits include ‘City of Vice’ and ‘Blood Hunt.’ His films include ‘Song for a Raggy Boy’ and ‘Harry Brown.’

Glen has chosen his leading lady well, in the form of Lesley Sharp. You may have seen her previously in ‘Harper Regan’, ‘Mother Courage’ and ‘Uncle Vanya’ at the National Theatre, ‘Top Girls’ and ‘Greenland’ at the Royal Court and ‘Cyrano De Bergerac’ and ‘Playing with Trains’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Film credits include ‘Inkheart’, ‘Vera Drake’ and ‘Naked.’ Television work includes ‘The Survivors’ and ‘Red Riding.’ The cast also includes Harry Treadaway and Malcolm Storry.

We at Concierge Desk delight in making your visit to London’s theatre land a truly memorable one. As well as great deals on London theatre tickets, we have negotiated with some of London’s top restaurants to bring you great deals on meals – whether you prefer them before or after the show.
