Tuesday, May 18th, 2010Returning to the London theatre stage this summer is the award winning modern dance musical Into The Hoods, which will be playing at the Southbank Centre. Theatre tickets are on sale now.
Into The Hoods is a contemporary take on Stephen Sondheim’s hit musical Into The Woods. The show incorporates hip hop dance performed by nine children and nineteen adults. The quirky characters include Spinderella, Rap-en-Zel, Lil Red.
The urban fairytale follows two children lost in the ‘hood’, where they meet array of characters, each with their own unique story to tell.
The show wowed and delighted audiences at the Edinburgh Festival in 2006 and 2007, before transferring to the Novello Theatre in London in March 2008 for its West End premiere. During its run it extended twice, won an award for Best Ensemble Cast from Whatsonstage.com, and featured the Britain’s Got Talent winner and dance extraordinaire George Sampson.
ZooNation is the company behind the show, which sold out at the Queen Elizabeth Hall last Christmas. It will now perform in the larger Royal festival Hall from July to August.
Into the Hoods, which was conceived, choreographed and directed by Kate Prince, infuses hip hop and street dance with music from top artists such as Massive Attack, Basement Jaxx, Prince, Run DMC and Gorillaz to name but a few.
