Director Cameron Mackintosh is said to have spotted the 17 year old whilst he played Gavroche on Broadway during 2003, and has since negotiated the deal which involves him breaking off from his current concert tour.

Mackintosh commented in the Daily Mail, saying : “I went up to him at the closing night party in New York and told him he was terrific and hoped that one day he would return to play Marius. We’ve been in touch a lot and, of course, since then he has become this world-famous star. He, his father and I agreed that it would be great if he came and played Marius here in London.”

Les Miserables meanwhile is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary. A special anniversary touring production will mark the occasion, which will include a return to its original opening venue the Barbican, and a possible concert involving Nick Jonas at the 02 Arena – both tipped for later this year.

Les fantastic!

Jodie Prenger

Jodie Prenger, winner of BBC 1’s “I’d Do Anything” will make her debut in London’s West End in Les Miserables. The role is to act as preparation for the role to come, the lead as Nancy in Oliver!

Jodie won her role in Oliver! on the BBC 1 TV show, beating off thousands of other hopefuls in the reality show and being voted for by the public. 28-year-old Jodie isn’t playing the lead in Les Mis, she’ll be part of the ensemble in order for her to become accustomed the West End stage. In addition to appearing in Les Mis as part of her training, she’s been receiving tutorage at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Oliver! is set to open in December. Before then Jodie will appear in Les Miserables for just a few weeks, starting from next week, and the Queen’s Theatre. She will gain valuable experience playing a variety of smaller roles in order for her to gain experience.

One of the great things about Jodie is that she grasps every opportunity offered to her and she is eager to work.

When she won I’d Do Anything, Jodie told me that she didn’t want to sit around for six months but wanted to really use the time before going into rehearsals – I’m delighted that this is one of the things she’s chosen to do.

Jodie Prenger to star in Les Miserables

Andrew Bain, who is thirty five and from North London, will be recording his debut album featuring songs from such performers as The Smiths and Abba. Andrew has been working as a dentist while singing on the sidelines for the past decade, and now his dedication to performance art and his time spent in the theatre has paid off.

Andrew was in the chorus for Les Miserables in 1999 and he also performed in Whistle Down the Wind in 2002, from Cameron Mackintosh and Bill Kenwright respectively.

It was his opera rendition of Purple Rain by Prince that finally won him the attention of SongBMG and his new recording contract.

It’s not good news for his patients however as he still intends to honour any appointments he has for the next three months!

For the last 10 years I’ve been singing and enjoying dentistry. I’ve always loved singing and it’s hard to beat the thrill of a live stage.

I’ll miss my patients but glad I won’t have to use the drill anymore. It’s not the best part of dentistry for dentists or patients.

Dentist goes from Les Miserables to record deal

A new cast has been revealed for Les Miserables and from 23rd June 2008, Earl Carpenter who until recently was lead in Phantom of the Opera, will take over as Javert. Allyson Brown who has  recently been seen with RSC, as Fantine. Jon Robyns who was part of the original Avenue Q cast will play Marius and Drew Sarich will continue to play Jean Valjean.

The Les Miserables production has been running in the West End for a record breaking 23 years. The previous record was held by Cats. It’s popularity seems to be growing rather than diminishing with a new generation of theatre goers loving the powerful music and tragic yet inspiring storyline set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. This musical is now being performned by young ensemble groups in amateur theatre all across the country. Recently Girls Aloud singer Kimberley revealed on a BBC programme, that her dream had always been to play Fantine in Les Miserables. After some vigorous auditioning where the young singer was put through her paces, it was decided she wouldn’t take on the role for a whole production. However she was given a part in the chorus and after the shows’ finish and with the audience still in attendance, she was transformed and performed ‘On My Own’ as Fantine to rapturous applause.

Les Miserables is currently at the Queens Theatre.

New Cast for Les Miserables

With her beautiful singing voice and fantastic acting talents, the London based actress will take over the role from 23rd June 2008. She was previously a member of the touring production of Never Forget, the show following the rise of 90′s boy band Take That, and we are certain Nancy will continue to enjoy a fabulous career in the West End. Congaratulations and well done to Nancy Sullivan from all at Concierge Desk London!

Also joining the cast of Les Miserables is Leanne Dobinson, a top 10 finalist in the Sound of Music talent search show ‘How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?’. Dobinson has previous experience in the legendary production having played the part of the childhood Eponine prior to contending for the part of Maria in the reality television production. Losing out on the chance to play Maria to Connie Fisher, Leanne went on to take on starring roles in subsequent Theatre Royal productions Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Make Do and Mend. Her latest casting as Cosette in the Cameron Makintosh production is Leanne’s first singing role in mainstream London theatre, and we look forward to enjoying her fantastic vocal talents for many years to come.

First opening at the Barbican Theatre in 1985, Les Miserables is the longest running musical to perform in London. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo and adapted by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, Les Miserables is set during the French Revolution and follows the life of Jean Viljean, an escaped convict who goes on to climb to a high social standing under the guise of an assumed identity.
