Lion King Extends Run
Friday, April 3rd, 2009If you’re one of the many desperate people trying to get Lion King theatre tickets, you’ll be delighted to hear that the show has announced an extension to its current booking period. It is now taking bookings at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End until the 31st of January 2010; an extension of four months.
The stage adaptation of the Disney film first opened in London on the 19th October 1999. The current cast includes Shaun Escoffery as Mufasa and James Simmons as Scar.
The original film came out in 1994 with the stage adaptation hitting Broadway in November 1997. The musical features the five songs from the film as well as ten others including three new songs by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Meanwhile, at the Comedy Theatre, the revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Sunset Boulevard’ has been extended by two months. It was produced by the Watermill in Newbury where it had its initial run last year. The West End production opened on the 15th of December 2008 and was originally running until the 18th of April. However, it is now booking until the 27th of June.
The musical is another film adaptation, based on Billy Wilder’s 1950 Oscar winner of the same name.
