Three new plays have been announced in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs at Royal Court, concluding with the first ever Christmas show at the Sloane Square venue – Get Santa! Theatre tickets for the season are on sale now.

First in the season of plays will be Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris. Dominic Cooke directs this new play, which will run in the Jerwood Theatre downstairs for one month from 2nd September. Clybourne Park follows two generations battling the attitudes of a local community whilst trying to buy property. The play is inspired by A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry.

Following Clybourne Park is Nina Raine’s Tribes, which sees the return of director Roger Mitchell to the venue after a break of 15 years. Tribe’s follows the struggle of a deaf young man trying to be heard in what promises to be a “fascinating dissection of belonging, family and the limitations of communication”

The Jerwood Theatre downstairs will round off the season with Get Santa! A “magical, musical and downright mischievous” play by Anthony Neilson and Nick Powell. Every year Holly makes a special wish to Santa – to see her real father, but instead all she gets is useless presents. It’s Christmas Eve and this year she is going to take matters into her own hands. Get Santa opens on 1st December and runs until 15th January.

The full cast has now been announced for Howard Brenton’s Anne Boleyn playing at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre this summer. The show, which will be the world premiere of this new play, opens on 24 July for previews and runs until 21 August 2010. Theatre tickets are on sale now.

Miranda Raison was previously announced in the title role, and will now be joined by Anthony Howell playing King Henry VIII, and James Garnon as King James I. Also appearing are John Cummins, Michael Bertenshaw, Sam Cox, Ben Deery, Naomi Cranston, Mary Doherty, Will Featherstone, John Dougall, Colin Hurley, Peter Hamilton Dyer, Amanda Lawrence and Dickon Tyrell. John Dove will direct the show, which is designed by Michael Taylor.

Anne Boleyn was Henry VIII’s second wife, a passionate woman in love with both the King and politics. Howard Brenton has said that he “sets out to challenge the traditional assumptions of Anne Boleyn as a pawn manipulated by an ambitious father or as a sexually licentious predator, even a witch. Here, Brenton puts a very different Anne on the Globe stage – a witty and confident woman with controversial religious ideals, taking on the vicious world of Tudor politics.”

Currently showing is Henry IV Part One, closely followed by Henry IV Part Two opening on 3 July. The plays form part of the Kings And Rogues season at the Globe, which will also include the Merry Wives of Windsor and new play Bedlam by Nell Leyshon.

For the ultimate operatic experience, the London Coliseum is the city’s highly renowned venue for spell bounding Opera. Currently running at the central London location is Idomeneo, the first mature masterpiece by Mozart. Theatre tickets for Idomeneo at the London Coliseum are on sale now.

Idomeneo is conducted by English National Opera’s Edward Gardner, winner of the Laurence Olivier award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera.

Set in Crete in around 1200 BC, the opera is set amongst the backdrop of the Trojan War. Idomeneo has been away for many years, during which time his son, Idamante has ruled in his absence. The mythological plot purveys a story of life and death and the nature of choices and consequences in war.

The cast of Idomeneo are amongst the best of Britain’s operatic talent, including Robert Murray, Emma Bell, Paul Nilon and Sarah Tynan. Libretto is by Varesco after Danchet.

Katie Mitchell directs this deeply felt masterpiece, following the success of her other Trojan War epic, Purcell’s Dido And Aeneas, which she adapted for the Young Vic in 2009. Other London credits include The Cat In The hat, Waves, Pains Of Youth and Some Trace Of Her for the National Theatre, and The City and Forty Winks at the Royal Court.

At The Concierge Desk we endeavour to provide cheap theatre tickets to all shows across London, ranging from the musical, to comedy, drama and opera.

The Wizard Of Oz

Following the BBC Television competition Over the Rainbow, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz is due to open at the London Palladium in March 2011. Theatre tickets for the show are available to book now.

Based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Baum himself adapted the script for the stage in 1903 before it was made into the hugely successful 1939 film starring Judy Garland. The stage musical is adapted by John Cane with music and lyrics by EY Harburg and Harold Arlen, and enjoyed its first premiere at the Barbican in 1987 by the RSC starring Imelda Staunton.

Jeremy Sams is expected to direct this latest revival, with choreography from former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Glenn Slater are to write some new songs for the musical.

The television judging format follows How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? where Connie Fisher was discovered for lead role in The Sound of Music, Any Dream Will Do which launched Lee Mead in the lead role for Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and I’d Do Anything where Jodie Prenger won the role of Nancy on Oliver! The Search for Dorothy and her dog Toto began in March this year, with the winner Danielle Hope being cast as Dorothy and the mini Shnauzer Dangerous Dave being cast as Toto.

The Wizard if Oz follows Sister Act, currently playing at The Palladium Theatre in London until January 2011.

At The Concierge Desk we provide you cheap London theatre tickets for the top shows on the West End.

Two fantastic plays written by Liverpool’s Willy Russell are to be revived by the Menier Chocolate Factory. They will run in repertory from 26th March to 8th May and theatre tickets are already on sale. The shows promise to sell out and don’t be surprised if at least one of the shows gets a transfer to London’s West End theatre.

‘Shirley Valentine’ will star Meera Syal. Meera first came to prominence in the hit sketch comedy show ‘Goodness Gracious Me’ and has also starred in ‘The Kumars at No 42’ and ‘Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee’. Her last appearance on stage in ‘Rafta Rafta’ at the National Theatre in London prompted great reviews for the show, but some reservations about her stagecraft.

‘Educating Rita’ will co-star Larry Lamb and Laura Dos Santos. Lamb’s profile has never been higher, having starred in two of the biggest shows on television over Christmas. He was the loveable dad Mick in ‘Gavin and Stacey’ and the scheming Archie Mitchell in ‘Eastenders’. His previous stage work includes ‘Five Wives of Maurice Pinder’ at the National Theatre and ‘Fool for Love’ in the West End.

Laura Dos Santos’ previous work includes ‘Look Back in Anger’ at the Jermyn Street Theatre and ‘In Your Hands’ at the New End.

At Concierge Desk, we bring you news of notable productions as soon as we hear about them and, of course, pride ourselves on offering the very best deals in cheap London theatre tickets with regular updates to our website.

Nicholas Hytner, the artistic director of the National Theatre, has announced many of the productions for the next year. The National, in common with almost all of London’s theatres, has been enjoying record sales of theatre tickets and looks to continue that success with some wonderful shows.

The Olivier is the largest of the three auditoria at the National. Forthcoming shows there include Middleton’s Jacobean tragedy ‘Women Beware Women’ directed by Marianne Elliott. Harriet Walter stars in the production. ‘Hamlet’ was announced some time ago and will star Rory Kinnear and Clare Higgins. It is directed by Nicholas Hytner.

The former artistic director at the National, Richard Eyre, returns to the South Bank to direct Moira Buffini’s ‘Welcome to Thebes.’ Michael Grandage, who runs the Donmar Warehouse, makes his National debut directing ‘Danton’s Death’ by Buchner. This play has been given new elements by Howard Brenton who has written a fresh adaptation. Toby Stephens stars in a fascinating role.

In the Lyttleton, Howard Davies will direct a new play by JT Rogers. In addition, Terence Rattigan’s ‘After the Dance’ is revived by Thea Sharrock and Alan Bennett’s ‘The Habit of Art’ returns in July with a brand new cast ahead of a national tour. Rupert Goold will direct a new play by Mike Bartlett called ‘Earthquakes in London.’ This is a co-production with Headlong and opens in August, so theatre tickets are currently unavailable.

J B Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’, directed by Stephen Daldry and originally produced at the National Theatre in 1992, has had transfers to the West End and Broadway has even and toured the world. It was recently given a short West End revival but, following tremendous demand for theatre tickets, has now transferred to the Wyndhams Theatre and been given a further lease of life.

Hampstead Theatre is already very well established, but it looks to be gearing up to be an even bigger player in the London theatre scene in 2010. Their Christmas shows, ‘Darker Shores’ for adults, and for the three to six year olds in your life, ‘Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play’ are already selling lots of theatre tickets and are ensuring full house signs. The New Year looks even more exciting, though.

There will be a special event running from 18th to 23rd January when ‘A Jubilee for Anton Chekov’ plays, which marks the 150th anniversary of Chekov’s birth. It is being produced in support of ‘The White Dacha’; the house in Yalta where Chekov wrote many of his most famous works, and is now a museum dedicated to him.

Michael Pennington and Rosamund Bartlett will host the events which include Richard Eyre directing actors such as Eileen Atkins, Miriam Margolyes and Simon Russell Beale in extracts from Chekov’s plays. There will also be writers discussing Chekov’s works, including his short stories. Those who have already agreed to appear include William Boyd, David Hare and Michael Frayn.

The theatre will then be presenting two productions from the Royal Shakespeare Company, ‘Dunsinane’ and ‘The Gods Weep’. Theatre tickets for all of these shows are on sale.

We at Concierge Desk are specialists in cheap London theatre tickets.

Shakespeare’s Globe had a record breaking 2009. After selling over 345,000 theatre tickets, the Artistic Director, Dominic Dromgoole, is looking to do even better when it comes to selling theatre tickets in 2010 as he announces the productions for next year. The overall name given for the season is ‘Kings and Rogues’.

Howard Brenton is undoubtedly one of the most prolific and distinguished playwrights we have. He enjoyed great success at the Globe recently with his new work ‘In Extremis’ and at the National Theatre with ‘Never Had It So Good’. Added to this many of his early works have enjoyed revivals in the last couple of years. These include ‘Weapons of Happiness’ in a fantastic production at the Finborough Theatre and a five star rated revival of ‘Christie In Love’, directed by Dan Ayling. This was as fresh as it was when first produced forty years ago.

Now another new work by Brenton, ‘Anne Boleyn’ will be produced at the Globe next year. It is joined by another premiere, ‘Bedlam,’ by Nell Leyshon.

The traditional Shakespeare fans will not be disappointed, either. Henry IV Part One and Two and Henry VIII will all be presented at the Globe for the first time.
