Midsummer
Sunday, January 24th, 2010As January and February loom closer, many people start plotting their escape from the dreary winter blues. Sunshine is seen by some people as the best cure for Seasonal Affective Disorder, but for many the only escape they’ll get is provided by the magic of theatre.
One show that promises to make people forget the coming age of austerity and the lousy weather is ‘Midsummer’ by David Grieg and Gordon McIntyre, which will run at the Soho Theatre in London from 12th January to 6th February. Theatre tickets are on sale now.
Directed by David Grieg, the play is a romantic comedy that also features songs. The Guardian described it as “exhilarating…you float out laughing as if you’ve just swallowed sunshine on a spoon.”
‘Midsummer’ was one of the hits of 2009’s Edinburgh Festival. It stars Cora Bissett and Matthew Pidgeon as Helena and Bob; two people from different sides of the tracks that have a chance meeting in a bar, which results in “A warm-hearted, beautifully-sculpted musical romantic comedy” – The Scotsman.
You may have seen Bissett on your television screen in ‘River City’, ‘Rebus’ and ‘Taggart.’ Film roles include ‘Reichenbach Falls’ and ‘Red Road.’ Previous theatre credits include ‘Caledonian Road’ at the Almeida, ‘Electra’ at the Gate and ‘Wolves in the Walls’ with the National Theatre of Scotland.
Pidgeon’s television experience include roles in ‘This Morning with Richard Not Judy’, ‘Casualty’ and ‘Fiona’s Story.’ He has also appeared in our cinemas, starring in ‘State and Main’ and ‘The Winslow Boy’. His previous stage credits include ‘The Wonderful World of Dissocia’ and ‘Realism’ with the National Theatre of Scotland.
