Record Breaking Ticket Sales for Oliver!

BUY OLIVER TICKETS - LIVE AVAILABILITY

We have found in the past that following a peak of theatre ticket sales on the run up to Christmas, things can stabilise once we hit January as the public recover from the excesses of the festive period. However, with the coming of the new year, this year the West End theatre scene is seeing the coming of the phenomenon that is Oliver! at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and a subsequent record breaking demand for tickets for this immensely successful production.

With Rowan Atkinson in the role of Fagan and Jodie Prenger, winner of TV’s incredibly popular “I’d Do Anything”‘ reality talent show playing the ill fated Nancy, this latest production of Lionel Bart’s classic show has been hugely anticipated and is proving a fantastic success with Oliver tickets selling faster than any previous West End show. With advance sales of £15 million, Oliver has smashed the previous box office record of £12 million achieved by Dirty Dancing when it opened in 2006.

Feedback being received by audiences is reflective of the record breaking sales, with praise for the ‘superb cast’ and Rowan Atkinson being described as being on ‘another level’.

With tickets in such high demand, performances of Oliver are selling out left right and centre. We strongly recommend you purchase your tickets for Oliver as soon as possible if you do not wish to miss out on this spectacular production.

Goold Has The Midas Touch

Rupert Goold

Rupert Goold

One director, whose name seems to guarantee sales of theatre tickets, is Rupert Goold.

He will soon be directing the new production of ‘Oliver’ in the West End, which includes the winners of the BBC reality show, ‘I’d Do Anything’. Before that though, his production of ‘Six Characters in Search of An Author’ by the Italian dramatist, Luigi Pirandello opens at the Gielgud theatre.

This play was originally produced for the Chichester Festival this summer. It stars Ian Mcdiarmid, who started off as a classical actor starring in ‘Hamlet’, ‘The Tempest’ and ‘King Lear’. He is now, surely, best known for playing the emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars movies.

This forms an interesting parallel with Rupert Goold’s production of ‘Macbeth’ last year which was originally staged for the Chichester Festival and then transferred to the Gielgud. It starred Patrick Stewart, another classically trained actor, who is now best known for his roles as Jean-Luc Picard in ‘Star Trek The Next Generation’ and Professor Charles Xavier founder of the superhero team (and money-spinning movie franchise), the X-Men.

Goold’s ‘Macbeth’ has gone on to New York where it is the toast of Broadway. Can he do the same thing a second time with ‘Six Characters?’ Only time will tell.

We gave superb availability of Oliver tickets so book today with Concierge Desk London to see this classic show!

Jodie Prenger

Jodie Prenger

Jodie Prenger, winner of BBC 1’s “I’d Do Anything” will make her debut in London’s West End in Les Miserables. The role is to act as preparation for the role to come, the lead as Nancy in Oliver!

Jodie won her role in Oliver! on the BBC 1 TV show, beating off thousands of other hopefuls in the reality show and being voted for by the public. 28-year-old Jodie isn’t playing the lead in Les Mis, she’ll be part of the ensemble in order for her to become accustomed the West End stage. In addition to appearing in Les Mis as part of her training, she’s been receiving tutorage at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Oliver! is set to open in December. Before then Jodie will appear in Les Miserables for just a few weeks, starting from next week, and the Queen’s Theatre. She will gain valuable experience playing a variety of smaller roles in order for her to gain experience.

Cameron Mackintosh is the producer of Oliver!

One of the great things about Jodie is that she grasps every opportunity offered to her and she is eager to work.

When she won I’d Do Anything, Jodie told me that she didn’t want to sit around for six months but wanted to really use the time before going into rehearsals – I’m delighted that this is one of the things she’s chosen to do.
