Priscilla Queen Of The Desert
Friday, June 18th, 2010Priscilla Queen Of The Desert continues to delight its West End audiences, and has recently extended its run at the Palace Theatre until May of next year. Theatre tickets are onsale now.
The flamboyant musical opened in March 2009 and has received critical acclaim, plus a Laurence Olivier award for best costume. New to the cast is Ben Richards, better known as PC Nathanial Roberts in the ITV police drama The Bill. Richards will replace Australian star Jason Donavan, who will be standing down from the role of Tick.
The musical is adapted from the 1994 film of the same name by Stephen Elliott, who also wrote the films screenplay. It follows the journey of three men in a cabaret act, one transsexual and two transvestites, who embark upon a journey across the Australian outback in a battered old bus. Along the way they find friendship, love and some very interesting characters.
Besides The Bill, Richards screen credits include Holby City and Footballer’s Wives. He has also appeared on the London stage in Guys And Dolls, Grease, The Full Monty and Saturday Night Fever.
The original cast of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert included Tony Sheldon as transsexual Bernadette, who has now been replaced by Don Gallagher. Oliver Thornton continues his role as Adam.
