Sister Act
Saturday, June 26th, 2010Sister Act has announced its closure at the London Palladium for January 2011. In the meantime, former singer from boy band Blue Simon Webbe joins the cast, playing Deloris Van Cartier’s bad-boy lover Curtis Shank.
Theatre tickets are available for the show, which is brought to us by Hairspray producers Stage Entertainment and directed by Hollywood star Whoopi Goldberg.
Sister Act is a musical adaptation of the hit 1992 film, starring Goldberg in the lead role. Patina Miller stars as Deloris, with Sheila Hancock in the role of Mother Superior – played in the film version by Maggie Smith. Hancock has recently extended her contract by three months, for which Goldberg has said: “We’re so thrilled that the fabulous Sheila Hancock will continue to trade her judge’s robes for a nun’s habit for another three months. She is truly a force of nature and we’re so grateful to have her in our production of Sister Act. And, what can I say about the delicious and talented Simon Webbe, except that we are honoured to welcome him to the family.”
Simon Webbe has enjoyed a lucrative solo career since the split of Blue, releasing two solo albums with a third to follow. His television appearances include I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, with film roles in Rolling With The Nines and The Truth About Love. Sister Act will mark his debut on the West End, for which he has said to be “honoured”.
